Frequently Asked Questions

Enabling is an adaptive behavior.  An enabler allows an addict to persist in self-destructive behavior by providing excuses or making it possible for the addict to avoid the consequences of their behavior.  Enabling is also known as co-dependency. Enablers often benefit from therapeutic treatment of their own whether or not the addict chooses to seek treatment. Support groups are available in most areas to help loved ones of addicts resist enabling.
